The most original format: a portable unit over glass containers. Households of 1-2 people short on space who value seeing the food, avoiding nonstick coatings and moving straight from cooking to the freezer with the same container.

Analysis

The Ninja Crispi isn't a standard air fryer: it is a portable system. Instead of a fixed drum, you have a heating unit (the PowerPod) that rests on top of glass containers in two sizes (4 quarts and 6 cups). You cook in the glass container, and that same container then goes in the freezer, the microwave or straight to the table.

It has three concrete advantages. First: the glass has no PFAS and no nonstick coatings to scratch. Second: you see the food as it cooks, without opening anything. Third: when you're not using it, you store just the PowerPod, which takes far less room than a whole air fryer.

In exchange, the functions are basic (air fry, 450 F Max Crisp, bake and recrisp), there is no low-temperature dehydrating, and the large container, at 4 qt, isn't enough for a whole chicken. It is a young format, launched in 2024, but it already has 4.5 stars and thousands of reviews, and it fits very well for 1-2 person households that struggle for space.

Pros

  • See the food through the glass while it cooks
  • PFAS-free glass containers: no nonstick coating to scratch
  • The same container goes in the microwave, freezer and dishwasher
  • Stores small (just the PowerPod)
  • 450 F Max Crisp

Cons

  • Only 4 functions: no low-temperature dehydrating
  • The large (4 qt) container won't fit a whole chicken
  • New format (2024): less of a track record than a classic Ninja
  • The set costs more than a conventional compact

Ideal for: Households of 1-2 people short on space who value seeing the food, avoiding nonstick coatings and moving straight from cooking to the freezer with the same container.

What buyers say

4.5 stars. The most repeated comment is about space: "I didn't want another appliance taking up the cupboard" and this one barely does (you lift it with one hand). Fast for kids' snacks and easy to clean. It is a new format, still with fewer reviews than the classic Ninjas.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this machine. I didn't think I would - but I do. I don't like owning a lot of kitchen devices as I have a small kitchen. Additionally, I think people often buy the newest fad and then the machine doesn't get used. I limit myself to the bare necessities in kitchen appliances. I researched this before purchasing and figure I could return it if it didn't perform well. This design is totally different from other air fryers. I purchased an air fryer for a friend and while the thing worked it was bulky and I couldn't figure out how one could actually clean the thing out. I think the oil and debris must accumulate or the high temps sanitizes the machine. I never wanted to own one until I saw how Ninja turned the traditional air fryer design upside down. Unlike all the other air fryers, this design it so very easy to clean because the cooking element of the sits on top of the glass containers. The bowls can be stored in the freezer or refrigerator. Not sure if they are safe for microwave or not. This is so more than an air fryer as it bakes, roasts, grills, etc. Ninja doesn't advertise the machine as a low calorie way to cook but it should. Any fats from the meat one cooks or oils added to the food ends up at the bottom of the container. Saves lots of calories when using the grill function. The two glass dishes are incredibly easy to clean. One would think with the high temperatures that food would bake on and be difficult to remove. It isn't. This glass is somehow different and cleaning is easy and simple. Mostly just with soapy water and a sponge unless especially dirty then scrubber side of the sponge might be needed. Cooking has been so very easy. Since it take relative little time to cook say chicken thighs (10 min), I can cook them and then cook some vegetables (5 min) without the meats getting cold. Or I've been able to partially cook some baby potatoes and then stack chicken on top and finish cooking both together. I've cooked everything from tater tots to marinated tofu and everything has turned out great. As with everything there is a learning curve in determining how long to cook something. When cooked correctly chicken thighs have turned out crispy on the outside while still moist. I cook marinated tofu to be used as either a high protein snack or to be later added to a stir fry. Believe it or not my dog absolutely loves the tofu I have been making in this Ninja. I mean she LOVES it. I have been using this machine several times a week which is highly unusual for my don't-really-like-to-cook cooking style. The smaller bowl is the right size for one to two people, while the larger bowl is sized for larger portions. With the larger bowl I was able to cook two Cornish Hens. Their picture showing it cooking a whole chicken is wishful thinking IMO. I don't think possible unless that is a very small chicken. I find grilled vegetables come out great, as do baked potatoes and roasted mini potatoes. Grilled eggplant and peppers have been very tasty. I have attempted a sort of stir fry but since vegetables require different cooking times I found that sequencing the vegetables too time consuming. No fault of the machine as I was asking it to do something it was not designed to do. I tried their tater tot recipe and it was pretty good. I keep trying to create new ways to use this machine and know I have not yet explored its limits. Sometimes if I put too much food into the smaller bowl I will get foods slightly stuck onto the heating element. But never had any problem removing that food. I have not tried baking cakes or anything of that sort but plan to try sometime. This is one of the most versatile machine I have come across and the reason I would buy it again. I've started to enjoy cooking again due to this little machine.

Performance & Everyday Use: This appliance has become my absolute go-to for making quick snacks for my child and the neighborhood kids who frequently come over to play. It cooks incredibly fast and crisps food beautifully, performing much better than our standard traditional oven. One of my favorite features is the clear glass container; it makes it incredibly easy to keep an eye on the food while it cooks so I never have to worry about accidentally burning anything. Design, Space & Cleanup: Cleanup is an absolute breeze since the container is completely dishwasher safe. It also has an incredibly smart, compact footprint. It does not take up much counter space at all. I personally store mine right in our pantry, and because it is lightweight and well-designed, it is effortless to pull out when the kids are hungry and slide right back away when finished. Room for Improvement: If I could change one thing, it would be the interior rack material. I would much prefer it to be made of stainless steel instead of having a non-stick coating, as I prefer to avoid unnecessary chemicals in our household cookware. Pros: -Crisps much faster and more evenly than a conventional oven -Glass container allows you to monitor cooking without letting heat out -Dishwasher-safe parts make cleanup effortless -Compact size is perfect for pantry storage Cons: Internal rack utilizes a non-stick coating rather than stainless steel Pictured: Frozen snack being cooked and completed zucchini cubes, both turned out great!

Works great. The size is awesome. I can pick up the top with one hand. I had trouble picking up the lid with my instapot 14 n 1. And this ninja takes up less space. I keep my instapot in another area now. Keep my ninja crispi in my cupboard!!!! It all fits in one of the three shelves in my upper kitchen cupboard! Game changer for me. I have used it everyday since I bought it. I made some jackfruit inspired birria slash fajitas in it. It crisps better than my instapot. Easy to clean. Performance is on point. Shockingly a chicken can fit! Lol. Cool kitchen helper. And, my.son in law got one for work. He's a pinball guy and is mobile all day for work delivering and fixing pinball machines. He can literally use this on the go. So I got one for how compact the ninja crispi is. I am so short that I would always burn my for arms on the instapot. I am so happy! No more burns!!!!! Cooks everything so well. Be sure to test out how crispy you want things. It can literally cook in just a few minutes if you make hashbrowns. Cutting crispy cooking time in half! The recipe book is great. Has good stuff and tips. No more oil. Glass doesn't stick. Overall so worth it.

Did I want another appliance taking up space in my cabinets? I did not. Do I love this thing? Yes, I do. What I like: that it heats up food quickly and crisply, that it doesn't take up space on my counter like a toaster oven, that it can be thrown in the dishwasher. What I don't like: even the large container would be small for more than one or two people, even the "lowest" temperature setting sometimes over-crisps food before heating it through, that it can't do one or two cookies like a toaster oven. That said, with limited counter space I'd choose it over a toaster oven or traditional air fryer every time. It excels at heating up most things I need it for, including crisping vegetables, breaded chicken, warming egg bites, crisping the outside of a frozen burrito. Having previously relied on a counter-top toaster oven, it can accomplish most tasks that the countertop one can, with easier clean up and less monopolization of counter-space. Like I said, it does not bake well, so cookies, pastries, scones, rolls must be done in the "big oven." I thought I would use the lids more for storing food, but turns out throw them in the dishwasher so I can use the pans again and transfer any leftovers to separate tupperware.
